CycleOps JetFluid Pro

CycleOps’ JetFluid Pro Trainer is your secret weapon. Use it whenever time or weather constraints arise so you can stamp your authority on the hills, races or group rides next time the sun shines. The Pro features progressive resistance, where just like the real world, resistance builds the faster the wheel spins. Charging through 600-watt intervals or spinning easily in the little ring requires no adjustment; the power curve automatically changes to give you a silky-smooth workout. Plus, the Fluid is whisper quiet and the frame is tough, sturdy and stable so you can ride as hard as you want.

My first trainer so not much to gauge it to, but I see no need for any other. Stable, good resistance. This winter will is going to be awesome. One thing though after I slapped on a CycleOps training tire (Yellow) it kicked it up a notch. Much better than my regular road tire, it became smoother and most important much quieter! My Wilier does not like being restrained...she'll just have to get use to it :)

        Good, not great...

        Comments:

I like 3 things--Resistance unit is very smooth, unit provides more resistance than previous mag trainer and frame has adjuster to keep it from wobbling on uneven floor. What I don't like--(In greater detail) 1) There is very little resistance to 15mph. I get it that the resistance curve is different than a mag trainer, but I don't find this realistic road feel at all. 2) When you spin it up, the resistance comes on quick and hard. Again, I know it is different than a mag trainer*. 3) The fixed and adjustable arms that hold the bike's QR are spindly, compared to many other trainers (Blackburn, Kinetic). My rear tire moves all over the roller as these under-supported arms flex within the main, black framework. I won't brag about how smooth I pedal, but this was NOT any issue on previous trainer. Climbing or sprint workouts, as listed under "best uses" below, would seem like a disaster waiting to happen. *My workouts with my old mag trainer (BBurn Tech Mag 6) were done in the big ring and I shifted all over the rear cogs to tailor the resistance to what I needed. With the JFPro, I am using only a 3-4 cog range in the back. Lower gears are spinning away at no resistance. Higher gears offer impossibly high resistance. I WISH this JFPro had a less abrupt upturn in it's resistance curve--shallower, less aggressive. My big gripe with my previous BBurn trainer was that it did not offer quite enough max resistance, so I bought the JFPro. I DID get (much) greater max resistance and the unit IS smooth, but feel I went backwards in bike-to-trainer stability and workout variety. I am keeping it for now, but also on the lookout for something more to my liking. On a side note, I found that the mounting tabs for the resistance unit were the same on this JFPro and a Kinetic Cyclone trainer I had around. If I could have easily mounted the fluid unit on the Kinetic frame, which is BRILLIANT and ROCK SOLID, I would have had a fantastic trainer. The screwball, idiot-proof, torque limiter adjuster on the JFPro resistance unit was what kept me from completing this project. It's not a bad trainer, but it isn't the one I was hoping for, either. I bought my first Jet Fluid trainer five years ago and and last year bought one for my son. It's the best trainer I've ever used, easy to setup and excellent for interval training. I use it all year round. CycleOps also has a great Support Service; responsive as well as knowledgeable

Trainer feels much more like the road than I expected - very smooth ride!! Also my kit was missing the quick release skewer (can ride without it if need be)- I called the number on the instructions and they sent me a new one without issues!

        Comments:

I bought this trainer a couple years ago after having a Mag trainer for the last 10 years! I couldn't believe how much quieter it is and how smooth the drum is. Why did I wait so long? Now it is so much easier to use virtual trainer or even watch a DVD because I dont have to blast the audio at max. And the power curve is so much better that I am able to tailor my intervals a lot better. This winter will be much better than previous ones for those reasons for sure! Only thing I have trouble with is dialing in the tension on the rear wheel, they could have made it easier to fine tune so I dont get so much slip or tire wear.

I've had this trainer for a while, and it has held up to the workload. I used it last winter almost daily. I've taken it to races and let teammates use it too. It's easy getting the bike in and out of the trainer. It's very stable on a variety of surfaces. The resistance has a pretty good feel. Great value.

This is a great trainer! I have used other trainers in the past, but this one is the best I've used. Nothing to assemble, easy to set up, and best of all, It has unlimited resistance! I got the training kit from Scheels and it comes with nice extras. I also bought a trainer tire for my road bike so I won't have to worry about burning through my riding tires. One other nice thing is at high cadences I still have resistance.

Good... after a bit of a hiccup

        By editor

        Comments:

I bought this on a special deal offer through a large cycle shop group in the UK at the start of autumn. Initially, I was a little disappointed as the tensioning screw was faulty - it wouldn't 'click' - and the shop wanted me to buy another instead of simply replacing it (even though it was less than 24 hours old)! I complained direct to the UK importers and within a matter of hours, I had the CEO of Cyclops fighting my case for me - they send a replacement unit within three days and I was finally able to use it. Though relatively basic in external design - I guess all the engineering is inside the turbine - the JetFluid Pro has achieved what I was after. The reviews I'd seen said it was quite silent in use, and I would agree with that. The resistance is good, too - I don't run out of gears, that's for sure. Some have said it's very similar to being on the road, but I'm not so sure that's true - but of all the trainers I've ever tried (in shops, and what I've owned down the years), this is the best. The 'Pro' suffix relates to the leg adjustment, and I'd recommend this for two reasons. Firstly, even though my garage floor is flat and perfectly horizontal, the bike tends to 'lean' to one side unless I offset the cant with the left leg's adjuster. I think there's some 'slack' in the course-threaded quick-lock system (on the left), which cause the bike's hub to 'sag' slightly. Also, there's a little bit of 'flex' in the base of main U-bar which also needs compensating for. These aren't problems as such, but are part of the design; the leg adjustment certainly helps alleviate them and ensure you get a perfectly vertical bike. It was good to see a spare QR skewer in the box; my bike's generic one wouldn't have fitted and this means you can get onto the Turbo straight out of the box. My special offer deal came with a free riser block (the basic dish one); you will certainly need to put something under the front wheel to keep the bike horizontal and maintain a true-to-ride position when training. After a poor start, which was superbly sorted out by Cyclops themselves, I am very happy with my JefFluid Pro; for anyone in the market for a smooth, quiet turbo, they will be pleased with both the build quality and performance of it.
